An uncle started it.
The shop was founded over 44 years ago by Barry's uncle. It was a family business from the first board, and it has stayed one. The designs were drawn up years back by family members and they have been built the same way since, with a pattern handed down from one set of hands to the next.
Barry has carried that torch for over 34 years. That is thirty-four and a half years of working with his hands and getting heavy-duty woodwork right.
“I grew up working right beside my elders, learning the family patterns we still use today to build every dog house and garden swing.”
A down-to-earth, country fella.
That is how the shop describes Barry. His reputation rests on one plain idea: delivering a product that structurally outlasts the competition.
So the houses are framed the way a small building is. Exterior-grade T1-11 siding, a floor that sits on pressure-treated legs, a roof deck under shingles, an offset door and an awning to keep the weather out. None of it is a secret. It is just done properly, every time, in the shop on Elberton Road.
Welcome to the family.
It is not just a tagline. A customer named Katie Bennett bought a large dog house for her ten year old rescue and wrote about it afterward. The part she kept coming back to was that the owner reached out the next day, thanked her, and told her she was now “part of the family.”

Ace Hardware stands behind it.
The shop says it has earned the official backing and trust of Ace Hardware stores heavily across the region. Feed stores, farm supply stores and hardware stores carry the houses as factory direct dealers, so what you see on a porch came straight from Tignall.
